PARTY!

So I got to try my hand at party planning this weekend with a Bridal Shower for Megan.

I had a wonderful time putting it all together and seeing all my hard work pay off. I've discovered the key is preparation. An hour before the party I was relaxing on the couch reading a book, feeling stress free.

I had pre-made the desserts. 3 chocolate raspberry cheesecakes, 3 apple crostata's, a lemon bunt cake and chocolate covered strawberries. The rest of my menu was stress free. The pre-party cooking and setting up went smoothly. It was a lot different then the parties Stephen and I plan together where I make him do all the hard cooking and he's in a mad rush to finish everything before the guests arrive.

My menu consisted of:
Strawberry Spinach Salad
Chicken Salad Croissant Sandwiches
Garlic roasted red potatoes
Grilled Pineapple(defiantly the hit) I marinated it in honey, lemon juice and pepper.

We played fun games and even saw the "dirty side" of some of my family members. We know what's on their minds:) Actually it was hilarious and made the party even more fun. We played a version of the "Newly Wed Game" complete with the husbands answers on film. Grandma Lauder won with the most matches to grandpa after 52 years of marriage. Grandma Moser was only 1 behind on her correct answers with their 52 years of marriage also.

My biggest concern about hosting this shower was mixing my dad's side of the family with my mom's side of the family, and Megan's family, and making everyone feel welcome. It's always hard when there's divorce in families and getting everyone together. I was most pleased with how well everyone got along and how the conversations flowed and everyone was laughing and having fun. My Grandma even called me later that night to tell me what a wonderful time she had and that she was amazed that everyone was so gracious. She said she thinks this is the way it should be in heaven; everyone loving each other and having a great time, no one holding grudges or feeling left out.
That was the nicest compliment I could have received.

I'm sure Megan is happy that she got such wonderful gifts. It was a great party!
