Life goes on....

While we sit and wait for good news that's not likely to arrive this year, life must continue. We fill our days with family, school, work, church callings, family togetherness, friends and baked goods. Yes, I said baked goods. When my husband feels stressed he bakes, and I'm not sorry for that outlet one bit. We have enjoyed countless yummy creations that we share with friends and family.

I will admit I'm not sad about having another year to spend with my husband. (Assuming we get accepted to medical school next year) We are celebrating 10 years of marriage this July and life hasn't been better. I love having him home every night. We spend so much time together as a family and making these huge life changes have really brought us together. Stephen says life is peaceful right now and if anything, the Lord has shown us what simplifying, getting out of dept, and spending time as a family can do to alleviate stress and increase happiness. We are still remaining optimistic of the slight chance Stephen could be accepted off the wait list in Virginia this year, but we are still determined to apply one more time for the 2011 school year.

So here is some of what we have been up to while we enjoy life and wait....

playing with our cousin Matyx

Our house is two minutes from hiking trails. We went on a nice Sunday afternoon walk up in the mountains overlooking our little city. The kids love being in the outdoors, and we love wearing them out!

The kids went to their first opera. It was geared toward kids and was a "mini" opera that was fabulous! Our good friend Megan was in it and she was so great. She is also Aiden's piano teacher and he got a kick out of seeing her up there all dressed up. We went with Stephen's mom and sister and the cousins. They were so good for the whole hour and watched intently. There was also an "instrument petting zoo" The kids got to go and try all the different instruments. Asher was very enthusiastic about it, and Aiden was more reserved. Their personalities are so different.

Primary is going well. I'm feeling confident about being the president and I have wonderful ladies that are so creative and fabulous. We just had our first quarterly activity of the year and it went well. We had our hands full with 40 kids and 4 adults, but luckily we were able to handle it. Our theme was "Tell me the stories of Jesus" to go along with Easter. I had fun making a tasting station where all the kids could taste foods that Jesus would have eaten. We talked about everyday life then and what Jesus was like as a child. I was impressed at how brave they were eating goat cheese, olives, figs, roasted eggs and the many other foods that they are familiar with. At the end we told a story about Jesus' resurrection and my counselor made up these yummy rolls as the treat. They are called Tomb Rolls and would be a great breakfast to make on Easter morning. When you break open the rolls they are empty inside which represents the Tomb being empty. Here's the recipe if anyone would like to try them.

and now Soccer has started. I'm still the age group coordinator over the first graders. What a PAIN! Remind me not to sign up for this job ever again. But luckily the games are all scheduled and I'm praying for good weather because I do not want to have to deal with rescheduling and contacting everyone. Aiden had his first spring soccer game on Thursday. They lost but then on the way home Aiden says, "who would have thought loosing my soccer game would have been good luck, I just lost my tooth!" He was pretty excited about loosing that tooth which he then promptly lost and had to write a note to the tooth fairy explaining why there wasn't a tooth under his pillow.

So as you can see, we are staying busy and enjoying life while we wait. I guess waiting isn't so bad after all.

I am so sorry Anisha! I remember getting denials from Utah. It almost makes my heart still break remembering the look on Sean's face. We are praying for you guys and Virginia.

I'm sorry that med school might not work out this year (never doubt the power of wait listing though). I understand all too well the frusteration of school applications and denials. But, if you guys really feel that's where you belong, keep applying. It will work out someday. Until then, you are so good at having a positive outlook on life. It is such an insperation.

Wow, good for you guys--finding the good in all of this! You are a great example to us all! Loved the pics of what you've been up to. Bryce loved the activity--thanks for all your hard work in Primary. You are definitely making a difference to a lot of people!
