Last night my bed was full of two sick children. Macy started crying a lot around 1 am and I knew something wasn't right. She usually calms right down and goes back to bed. I got some Tylenol into her and she eventually went to sleep.
Then around 2 am Asher shows up in our bed. I knew he wasn't feeling well yesterday because he just wasn't himself. He was quiet and just wanted to lay around. We spent most of the afternoon reading books under the trampoline in the shade. I even made popcorn for him and he didn't eat any. That's not like him at all. My suspicions were confirmed when he showed up in my bed with a high fever. Poor thing. He slept really restless all night. He was wearing his warm footie pajamas, so I striped those down to his waist and he didn't even complain. Last night he ended up sideways across the middle between Stephen and me. Of course, he left Stephen all the space he needed and I was hanging off the edge of the bed. Around 3 am he started talking to me. I know he wasn't all there but it was one funny conversation.
Asher: "Mom, it's called a honey tree."
Me: "oh"
Asher: "it gets on your finger and then you can wipe it on the grass, but it doesn't come off."
Me: "really?"
Asher: "There is one at school."
Me: "That's cool!"
Asher: "Cool?, Cool...Cool...Cool"
Asher: "Stairs....
After about an hour of no sleep in an uncomfortable position, with one hand on Asher's hot body waiting for the fever to break, and one hand on Macy's chest to make sure she's breathing. I had had enough! (I always worry that Macy is not breathing when she sleeps with us. Probably because I had a close call once about 8 months ago. She was next to me in the middle of our bed. I woke in the night and peeked over at her. Her chest didn't look like it was moving, so I placed my hand on her tummy to feel if it was and I couldn't feel anything. I started to panic and reached over and picked her up. She was in front of me hanging limp, her head falling forward and her arms and legs just hanging there. I started shaking her and saying her name. She took a big breath in and started to fuss a bit and then went back to sleep. I have no idea if it was a close call or if she was just sleeping soundly, but it defenatly scared me to death.) So in the middle of the night I woke Stephen to get out of bed and go sleep in Macy's bed so that I could have some room and keep an eye on them. I started to pull the covers off of stephen and telling him to leave, and he said, "I have no idea what you just said, where do you want me to go?" All these oblivios people around me! I can't believe Stephen can sleep through all of my night adventures and have no idea what going on. I told him Asher had a fever and in his sleep he reaches over and touches Macy's head and says, "I thought he felt hot." I told him that he was touching Macy. So he agrees to leave, even though I'm sure he still hadn't connected why I was kicking him out. And I finally got some sleep as well as my two sick kids.
I'm happy to report that both kids are doing fine this morning. No more fevers for Asher and Macy seems fine. We'll hybernate at home today.
