Aiden started first grade this week. He is in Mrs. Birrell's 1/2nd grade split class and is really enjoying it. He hasn't had any homework yet which has been nice for me, but I know it will all start soon. He loves eating lunch in the cafeteria. He took a sack lunch the first day, but now only wants to eat cafeteria food. Yesterday was the turkey and gravy lunch (that was my favorite as a child.)
I was very sad on the first day. He's gone all day long! Kindergarten was for only 2 1/2 hours and now he's gone 7 hours. I was worried that I would miss him, and that he would forget about me. (I know it sounds silly, but he's just so independent and that's a long time to be away from home.) Luckily after he got home on the first full day of school. He was happy to recieve my hugs and kisses. We sat on the couch cuddling and he told me all about his first day. It was just what I needed. It was so funny when he said with a sigh, "that was a LONG day- 7 hours!" The teacher warned us that they might be tired or cranky when they got home. It is a long day for a 6 year old.
I try to make it a big deal when he gets home from school everyday. I greet him at the door and welcome him home (secretly I have loved the long break and spending time with Asher and Macy) I've tried not to tell him what we did that day, so he's not too sad about missing out. But boy have we had a fun time! One day I took the little ones swimming at Classic with Tashina and her boys. We've had playdates, library trips, and lunch dates. I think Asher has been a bit lonely without his big brother. I'm sure he will forget all about it when he starts preschool next week.
We are starting a new phase in our household and I'm happy to report we are adjusting.
