Quinn the Pirate King!

When Asher's teeth came in he had one really strange looking one. We called it a double tooth because it looked like two teeth that had fused together. Well after a trip to the dentist when he was little, that is exactly what it is. The dentist tried to fix it and clean out the decay but Asher freaked out and refused to let the dentist complete the fix. So needless to say he has a horrible fear of the dentist. I tried to take him again last November to a new children's dentist but he screamed so hard and refused to even let the dentist look at it.

I figured that it didn't hurt so why torture him at the dentist. Well, last night Asher's tooth decided to start hurting. He cried most of the night and I was pushing the medication. It was a very long night. This morning I got him in with the dentist and we decided to remove it.

He was given bubble gum laughing gas and got to watch Curious George. He did a lot better than his previous trips. I think its because he was in pain and knew once it was out it would feel better. He didn't start really screaming until she was wiggling it and trying to pull it out. The assistants had to shut the door we were in because he was frightening the other children. Poor thing.

Well the HUGE tooth is now out and there is a HUGE hole where it used to be. I've been calling him Quinn the Pirate King (that's his middle name) all afternoon. He's excited for the tooth fairy to make an appearance tonight.

The dentist mentioned that he has 2 extra teeth on the top. So there were 6 teeth in the place where only 4 are supposed to be. Luckily the ex-rays show normal adult teeth.

I have to get used to his new look, it will probably be 4-5 years until his adult tooth decides to make an appearance.

We call it the Jack-O-Lantern look at our house... I love it! Just in case you're interested in the future...
I found a Pediatric Dentist in Salt Lake that does Laser Dentistry! It's painless most of the time and if it's severe enough to need a shot, he uses a special needle that only numbs the tooth needing to be fixed... not the whole mouth. The kids watch movies and play video games while he works, and they can eat and drink the minute he is done. It's awesome! They have NEVER complained about going the dentist ever since. If you want his info, let me know. Good Luck!

That is HUGE!!! Poor kid...inherited those strange Bettwieser teeth. If he's like Nora though, he'll loose his baby teeth at age 4...hopefully not though.
