Tubes, Adenoids, Tonsils

Asher has had a green boogie nose for months now. I began realizing it was a problem when a note was sent home from preschool, asking me not to send my child if he has green boogers. I didn't know what to do, he always has green boogers. I started sending him to school with tissues so he could wipe it himself, but he's the kind of kid that just ignores the problem and lets his nose run all day. Then I had people asking me if he has allergies. Finally I decided to take him into our ENT (Ear Nose Throat) doctor. Sure enough, he needed his adenoids out. He's also been having frequent ear infections so we decided to put a second set of tubes in.

We talked about his surgery and watched a little video on going to the hospital. He was excited for the socks you get to keep and to pick his flavor of sleeping medicine(bubblegum)

His excitement was over the minute he woke up. While Stephen and I were sitting in the waiting room, the doctor called us up to ask about Asher's tonsils. He said they were large and wanted to know if he snores. I tried to skirt the issue, because I was all for getting his tonsils out while he is little, but he doesn't have a snoring issue. Then he said, "well, we'll just watch it for a bit and see if it gets any worse." Then I had to beg. "please just do it now. He's already under and his older brother had to get his out, so I'm sure it will be an issue someday." It took a few more pleases and then he agreed.

Only problem is, Asher wasn't expecting his throat to hurt. When he woke up he was sore and mad and kept crying. Then he started coughing (ouch, poor throat) which led to throwing up his whole root beer slushy. He was crying about his IV in his foot and just keep going on and on. He was not a happy guy which made me sad. I had to wipe a few tears off my cheek and just try to calm him down. Finally he did, and has been fine ever since. You must have to really be a pitiful patient for the nurse to give you one of their donated fleece blankets to take home. He was all for the free stuff to bring home. He wanted his pillow, the blanket, a new pair of matching socks, and the empty tube that his foot bandage(from the IV) came from. I had my hands full.

On the ride home, I asked him if he was hungry. He said, "Why don't you just stop at Dairy Queen and get me some fries." Well ok then. He has no diet restrictions so that's what we got and we went home, made a bed on the couch, watched cartoons and ate fries with fry sauce.

I think the Tylenol with codeine has given him a little buzz because he is very hyper. He has been running around the house, jumping off things, rough-housing, and just being a pest(pinching me over and over again because he thinks its funny) I'm amazed he actually fell asleep last night and slept great!

I finally connected his mood to the medicine and we have switched him to regular tylenol. Silly thing! I hear day three is the worst, wish me luck tomorrow.
