April Fools

In honor of April Fools Day, the kids and I are planning a little prank. Stephen is all excited to come home to homemade sushi. Or so he thinks.....

I found these cute food pranks on familyfun.com and decided to give then a whirl. Aiden is really into jokes and pranks and he was so excited to help out. In fact it was him that convinced Stephen that he was actually getting sushi for dinner. I must tell you I was rather surprised with Aiden's acting skills. We hadn't even discussed what we would tell Stephen, but he came up with it all on his own. I didn't know if Stephen was convinced yet so the phone was handed to me and I quickly realized that he was a believer. This probably doesn't seem at all far fetched, but coming from me; a person who hates Sushi, who won't even touch it, and for him to believe that I had bought the sticky rice and seaweed and tuna and was trying to roll my own sushi, is quite a feat.

We are in fact tricking him and made rice crispy treats with a piece of licorice wrapped in the middle surrounded by a fruit by the foot. He did ask if we would be eating with him and I informed him that we would be eating spaghetti and meatballs. Which is also another food trick. It looks rather convincing like spaghetti but it's actually cupcakes with almond rocka chocolate balls dipped in strawberry jelly.

Stephen was a great sport about the whole thing. He popped a sushi in his mouth pretending it was real and then gave the kids a great surprised face. They loved yelling, "april fools."

He thought the speghetti was really cute and now we are going to dig in and enjoy the days labors.

YUMMY!
