It's actually a funny story how it happened. Stephen was getting ready to leave for an interview in Iowa today. He ran downstairs to check his email and came back saying he got an interview invite for Michigan State. (He's been talking about this school lately, so I was excited they actually contacted him) I asked him when it was and he said he didn't know and would read it more carefully later.
Well, me being the helpful wife that I am, decided to jump on his email and set up the interview for him. I started reading the email and the first line said,
"The Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine is pleased to offer you admission into the Class of 2015. We would be delighted to host a visit day for you, which would be your opportunity to interview us."
See the line that says "interview us," I'm sure in his 30 seconds of haste he just skimmed and saw things like this and the part that talked about visiting the campus.
I had to re-read it over and over to make sure it really was an acceptance (seeing that they never even interviewed him)
Then I jumped online to this great forum, called the studentdoctorforum, were all med school applicants can talk about their experiences, and sure enough, it confirmed that this school gives acceptances to their top choices without and interview. I called him right up and was in disbelief. He asked me to read it to him again. My favorite line from him was, "you mean these last 3 years haven't all been in vain?" That's right my love, YOU ARE GOING TO BE A DOCTOR!
I was really impressed when researching Michigan State to see that they are #7 in the nation for primary care physicians for MD and DO schools. (even above Harvard) and they have an entering class of roughly 300 students, with only 44 out of state students. That right! Only 44 out of state and Stephen is one! I'm so proud of him!
We are just are so excited. What a wonderful day and I haven't even got to see my husband to celebrate, but he will be home tomorrow and then I can give him a big kiss and tell him congratulations!
(this acceptance doesn't necessarily mean he will be going to this school. We are hoping for multiple acceptances and then we can be in charge for once and make the best decision, but at least we know he will for sure be going to medical school if he doesn't get any other offers!)
